Terms of use
Civly is a free reading of the congressional record. These terms are short because the service is simple.
The service
Civly collects public records about Congress and presents them with plain-English summaries, a daily brief, and tools for following bills and members. It is free to use, with or without an account. We may change, pause, or retire features at any time.
Accuracy and how to use it
Civly's data comes from public sources, chiefly Congress.gov, and its summaries and briefs are written by an AI editor from those records. Both can contain errors, omissions, and delays. Check the primary source before you publish, cite, or act. Every bill, vote, and member page links to the official record for that purpose. Nothing on Civly is legal, financial, or professional advice.
Your account
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials private and for everything done with your account. Tell us promptly if you believe it has been misused. You can delete your account at any time from Saved, then Account.
Acceptable use
- Do not try to break into, overload, or interfere with the service or other people's accounts.
- Do not scrape or bulk-download Civly at a rate that degrades the service for others. Government records are public and available in bulk from their official sources.
- Do not misrepresent Civly's content as official government publications.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
Content and credit
Records of Congress are in the public domain. Civly's own text, design, summaries, and briefs belong to Civly; you may quote and link to them with attribution, including in published reporting. Do not republish Civly's summaries wholesale as your own.
No warranty and limits of liability
Civly is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, availability, and fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Civly and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the service, and total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid to use Civly, which is nothing.
Privacy
How Civly handles your information is described in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.
Changes
If these terms change, the new version is posted here with a new effective date. Continuing to use Civly after that date means you accept the updated terms.
