What it does
- Requests that the Secretary of State submit to the Senate and House committees a statement on Honduras's human rights practices under former President Juan Orlando Hernandez, prepared in collaboration with the Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor and the Office of the Legal Adviser.
- Requires the statement to include all available credible information concerning alleged violations of internationally recognized human rights by Honduras's government, including connections between high-level officials and drug trafficking organizations, corruption related to drug trafficking, and torture.
- Requires the statement to describe steps the United States has taken to promote respect for human rights in Honduras, bring Honduran officials to justice for drug trafficking involvement, discourage human rights violations, and disassociate U.S. security assistance from such practices.
- Requires the statement to include an assessment of whether U.S. security assistance to Honduras has been used to support drug trafficking activities, the status of former President Hernandez post-conviction and his ties to drug cartels, and actions the U.S.
