What it does
- Directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to complete a study within 3 years on fentanyl and fentanyl-related substance testing in hospital emergency departments during overdose events, including testing frequency, scenarios where testing is not performed, costs, benefits and risks, staff training needs.
- Requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to issue guidance within 9 months after study completion on whether hospital emergency departments should implement fentanyl testing as routine for overdose patients, how to ensure healthcare professionals know which substances are tested.
