Dennis John Benigno Traumatic Brain Injury Program Reauthorization Act of 2026

What it does
- Extends the authorization of appropriations for the Bill Pascrell, Jr. National Program for Traumatic Brain Injury Surveillance and Registries through fiscal years 2027 through 2031.
- Directs the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to collect data on traumatic brain injury incidence, prevalence, and associated risk factors, including occupational and circumstantial factors affecting higher-risk populations.
- Requires the CDC to make aggregated information on traumatic brain injury and concussion publicly available on the CDC website, including information on higher-risk populations and tailored prevention strategies.
- Extends state grant programs for traumatic brain injury projects and protection and advocacy services through fiscal years 2027 through 2031, with consideration for higher-risk populations and American Indian consortia.
- Requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct a study within 2 years examining long-term symptoms or conditions related to traumatic brain injury, research evidence, correlations with dementia and mental health conditions, existing services, and research gaps.
