What it does
- Amends the Geothermal Steam Act of 1970 to require annual geothermal lease sales instead of sales every 2 years.
- Requires the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a replacement lease sale in the same year if a scheduled geothermal sale is canceled or delayed.
- Mandates that the Secretary offer for lease at least 75 percent of nominated parcels eligible for geothermal development, or provide written justification for not offering the remaining 25 percent.
- Requires the Secretary of the Interior to notify applicants within 30 days of receiving a geothermal drilling permit application whether it is complete or what information is missing.
- Requires the Secretary to issue a geothermal drilling permit within 30 days of determining an application is complete, or defer the decision with a timeline for agency actions not exceeding deadlines in the National Environmental Policy Act.
