What it does
- Establishes a categorical exclusion from environmental review requirements for reconductoring projects (replacing transmission line conductors with higher-capacity wires) within existing rights-of-way or on previously disturbed land.
- Defines advanced transmission conductor as a wire with at least 10 percent lower electrical resistance, 70 percent greater energy-carrying capacity, and 50 percent lower thermal expansion than traditional ACSR cable.
- Defines grid-enhancing technology as hardware or software installed to increase capacity, efficiency, reliability, resilience, or safety of transmission facilities.
