Air Traffic Situational Awareness Enhancement Act

What it does
- Directs the FAA Administrator to acquire and install certified Airborne Position Reference Tools at FAA contract air traffic control towers not equipped with Standard Terminal Automation Replacement Systems or other situational awareness tools within 1 year of enactment.
- Amends section 47124(f)(2) of title 49 to require the Secretary of Transportation to purchase and install a Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System or equivalent at contract towers lacking such equipment within 1 year, using manufacturer or FAA services.
- Directs the Secretary to establish a periodic training program in consultation with contract tower operators to ensure proper integration and use of situational awareness equipment by air traffic controllers.
- Requires the Secretary to reimburse airport sponsors or control towers for certified situational awareness systems independently acquired and installed before the FAA's installation, or provide retroactive grant funding.
- Amends section 48101(c) of title 49 to authorize FAA expenditures for acquisition, installation, and annual operating expenses of certified Airborne Position Reference Tools at contract towers.
