EFFECTIVE Food Procurement Act

What it does
- Requires the Department of Agriculture to make available and purchase a sufficient variety of foods from covered producers (beginning farmers, veteran farmers, socially disadvantaged farmers, and small/medium-sized farms) and covered entities sourcing at least 51 percent from such producers.
- Requires USDA to purchase foods that support worker well-being, diversified and resilient supply chains, and environmental sustainability through certified organic farms, animal welfare certification programs, and producers with policies limiting deforestation.
- Requires USDA to accommodate people with religious or restricted diets in commodity procurement programs and expand workplace protections in federal food supply chains.
