Urban Canal Modernization Act

What it does
- Defines an urban canal of concern as a transferred works or canal segment with an at-risk population exceeding 100 individuals, as determined by the Secretary of the Interior pursuant to guidelines developed under section 9602(a).
- Authorizes the Secretary of the Interior or a transferred works operating entity to carry out extraordinary operation and maintenance work on an urban canal of concern as determined necessary under section 9602(a) guidelines.
- Requires the Secretary to fund 35 percent of extraordinary operation and maintenance work costs on urban canals of concern on a nonreimbursable basis, with remaining costs advanced and repaid by the transferred works operating entity.
- Treats reimbursable funds provided under this section as non-Federal funds for cost-sharing purposes in Federal grant programs.
