Strengthening the Rule of Law in the Brazilian Amazon Act

What it does
- Directs the Chief Executive Officer of the United States International Development Finance Corporation to place staff in Brazil to identify sustainable economic opportunities and investment risks in the Amazon within 180 days of enactment.
- Directs the Secretary of State to coordinate with the Assistant Secretary for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs and relevant federal agencies to provide capacity building and technical assistance to Brazil for disrupting criminal networks in the Amazon, including information sharing, training.
- Directs the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development to provide financial and technical assistance to promote sustainable livelihoods and protect indigenous rights in the Brazilian Amazon.
- Authorizes appropriations of up to $10,000,000 per fiscal year from 2025 through 2028 to the Department of State to assist Brazilian authorities in combating crimes in the Amazon.
- Directs the Secretary of Treasury to instruct the United States executive directors at the World Bank Group, Inter-American Development Bank Group, and International Monetary Fund to use United States voice and vote to oppose loans that would facilitate deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon.
