TAME Extreme Weather and Wildfires Act

What it does
- Directs the Under Secretary of Commerce to develop and curate comprehensive weather forecasting training datasets with Earth system data, quality information, and metadata within 4 years of enactment, in consultation with the Department of Energy, NASA, NSF, and other federal agencies.
- Authorizes the Under Secretary to develop and test global, regional, and local weather models based on artificial intelligence technologies using NOAA data.
- Requires the Under Secretary to continue supporting NOAA collection of observational data, research on Earth systems, numerical weather modeling, data post-processing techniques, and data assimilation methods alongside AI model development.
- Directs the Under Secretary to submit reports to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology on AI weather forecasting activities biennially through 2035, with the first report due 2 years after enactment.
