AI Security and Innovation Act

What it does
- Establishes a Center for AI Security and Innovation within NIST within 60 days of enactment to assess risks from AI systems and facilitate information exchange between non-governmental entities and federal agencies.
- Requires the Secretary of Commerce to appoint a director for the Center within 3 months who will evaluate and improve security measures for AI systems, including defense against model tampering, data leakage, adversarial prompt injection, and supply chain attacks.
- Directs the Center director to establish a voluntary agreement process with private entities to conduct classified and unclassified evaluations of frontier AI systems for national and economic security risks.
- Directs the Center to support development and voluntary adoption of testing standards, guidelines, and best practices for frontier AI systems and AI security, including robustness, interpretability, and data center security.
- Requires the Secretary of Commerce to conduct a study assessing the feasibility of transferring the Center to another Department of Commerce agency and submit findings to Congress within 30 days of completion.
