AI-Ready Federal Data Guidelines Act

What it does
- Directs the National Institute of Standards and Technology Director to develop voluntary guidelines for preparing federal government datasets to train artificial intelligence models, in consultation with the Office of Science and Technology Policy, Department of Energy, Office of Management and Budget.
- Requires guidelines to address data formatting, labeling, quality evaluation, metadata documentation, maintenance, and automated public access for AI development; enable flexible implementation across sectors; align with Office of Management and Budget Circular A-119; and include conformity assessment procedures.
- Authorizes the Director to conduct not more than two concurrent pilot programs, lasting up to one year each, to develop sector-specific AI-ready data guidelines through federally funded research, National Laboratories, higher education institutions, or private partnerships, prioritizing national security.
- Requires the Director to brief Congress on implementation one year after guidelines publication and annually for five years thereafter.
- Prohibits the Director from transferring or reprogramming funds from other NIST programs to carry out this section.
