Air Traffic Situational Awareness Enhancement Act

What it does
- Requires the FAA Administrator to acquire and install certified Airborne Position Reference Tools at contract air traffic control towers without Standard Terminal Automation Replacement Systems or equivalent situational awareness tools within 1 year of enactment.
- Directs the Secretary of Transportation to purchase, install, and maintain a Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System or equivalent system at contract towers lacking such tools within 1 year of enactment, using original equipment manufacturer or FAA services.
- Requires the Secretary to establish a training program in consultation with contract tower operators to ensure air traffic controllers receive periodic training on situational awareness equipment integration.
- Authorizes reimbursement or retroactive grant funding to airport sponsors and towers that independently acquired and installed certified situational awareness systems prior to FAA installation.
- Adds certified Airborne Position Reference Tools acquisition, installation, and annual operating expenses at contract towers to authorized expenditures under the air navigation facilities and equipment account.
