VA Police Recruitment and Retention Act of 2026

What it does

• Prohibits the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Personnel Management, and other agencies from proposing, initiating, or carrying out downgrades of law enforcement positions in the VA.
• Voids any position downgrades for covered VA law enforcement positions proposed, initiated, or carried out between October 1, 2025, and the date of enactment.
• Requires positions subjected to downgrade during the specified period to be returned to their prior status with all back pay owed to affected employees.
