Don Young Doug LaMalfa Indian Buffalo Management Act

What it does
- Directs the Secretary of the Interior to work with Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations to promote their capacity to manage buffalo and buffalo habitat on Indian land.
- Authorizes the Secretary to enter into contracts, cooperative agreements, and grants with Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations to plan and implement buffalo restoration or management programs, commercial buffalo activities, or mobile meat processing facilities.
- Requires the Secretary to provide technical assistance to Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations carrying out buffalo restoration and management activities under contracts or grants.
- Requires the Secretary to consult with Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations within one year of enactment and on an ongoing basis regarding Department initiatives affecting buffalo or buffalo habitat.
- Permits the Secretary to transfer surplus buffalo from Federal land to Indian land through agreements with Indian Tribes or Tribal organizations, and to waive charges for such buffalo.
