SAFE CATTLE Act

What it does
- Direct the Secretary of Agriculture and Secretary of the Interior to enter into a memorandum of understanding within 180 days to coordinate prevention, control, and eradication of New World screwworm on covered Federal lands.
- Require the agencies to coordinate joint surveillance and monitoring protocols for early detection of New World screwworm in wildlife and non-livestock animals on covered lands.
- Require the agencies to coordinate with State wildlife and livestock health officers on response procedures, information distribution, and notification protocols for screwworm outbreaks on covered lands.
- Direct the agencies to develop science-based and risk-based approaches to maintain business continuity for non-infected animals and non-contaminated areas on covered lands.
- Require the Secretary of Agriculture and Secretary of the Interior to jointly submit annual reports to Congress on interagency coordination, surveillance progress, infestation incidents, and recommendations.
