Sponsor: Max L. Miller (R-OH)
What it does
- Expands eligibility for the Chafee education and training voucher program to youth who experienced foster care at age 14 or older, rather than only those who aged out.
- Lowers the program enrollment age from 16 to 14 and allows youth to participate for up to 6 years if engaged in remedial education.
- Permits voucher funds to cover short-term training programs eligible for Workforce Pell grants, apprenticeship costs, general equivalency degree completion, and remedial education.
- Defines remedial education as instruction in skills needed to obtain a high school diploma or qualify for postsecondary education, provided by credentialed instructors and not duplicating school district or free public programs.
