Geothermal Royalty Reform Act
Sponsor: Mike Kennedy (R-UT)
What it does
- Amends the Geothermal Steam Act of 1970 to define a geothermal electric generating facility as one that produces electricity from geothermal resources, with facilities sharing a turbine treated as a single facility.
- Requires royalty calculations on geothermal production to be based on output from each individual electric generating facility rather than the lease as a whole.
- Resets the 10-year royalty period for each new geothermal electric generating facility based on its in-service date, rather than the original lease commencement date.
