IHS Provider Expansion Act

What it does
- Establishes an Office of Graduate Medical Education Programs within the Indian Health Service to develop pipelines for health care professionals, paraprofessionals, and health-related professionals.
- Directs the Office to oversee current residency and fellowship programs at Indian Health Service facilities and facilitate establishment of additional residency programs to support recruitment and retention of health care professionals.
- Requires the Office to serve as the central hub for residency programs and coordinate with academic institutions and medical student education programs.
- Directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services, in consultation with the Secretaries of Veterans Affairs and Labor, the Health Resources and Services Administration, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, to establish an interagency working group to support the Office implementation.
- Authorizes appropriations of not less than $4,000,000 for fiscal year 2027 and $4,000,000 for each subsequent fiscal year to carry out the Office.
