Driver Technology and Pedestrian Safety Act of 2025

What it does
- Direct the Secretary of Transportation to seek an agreement with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine within 3 months to conduct a study on driver-controlled technology and its effect on severe traffic injuries and fatalities.
- Require the study to examine touch screen-based systems in motor vehicles, driver distraction, impact on vulnerable road users, and comparisons with smartphone use while driving.
- Require the Secretary to submit a report with study findings to Congress and publish it on the Department of Transportation website within 24 months of entering into the study agreement.
- Direct the Secretary to submit recommendations to Congress within 26 months divided into categories of actions implementable under existing agency authority and actions requiring new Federal legislation.
