Ensuring Veterans Timely Access to Anesthesia Care Act of 2025

What it does
- Directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to update VHA Directive 1123 to recognize certified registered nurse anesthetists as licensed independent practitioners consistent with Defense Health Agency standards dated November 8, 2023.
- Requires anesthesia professionals employed by the VA to be certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology (for physicians) or the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists (for CRNAs), or similar bodies determined by the Secretary.
- Requires anesthesia professionals to have completed at least 25 hours of direct patient anesthesia care not including supervision of other professionals.
- Directs the Comptroller General to submit an annual report to Congress within one year of enactment comparing outcomes and cost-effectiveness of three anesthesia delivery models in the Veterans Health Administration.
