Sponsor: Bruce Westerman (R-AR)
What it does
- Requires the Secretary of Agriculture to convey the Crossett Experimental Forest, R.R. Reynolds Research Natural Area, and associated facilities to the State of Arkansas if Arkansas submits a written request within 180 days of enactment.
- Conditions the conveyance on the State designating the Forest as the Crossett State Forest and managing it according to Arkansas forestry laws while maintaining its historic research, education, and demonstration mission.
- Requires the State to provide the University of Arkansas at Monticello and the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture with reasonable research and education access to the Forest.
- Grants the Secretary discretionary authority to revert the Forest to the United States if the State fails to manage it according to state forestry laws or maintain its research mission after 180 days of written notice.
- Exempts the conveyance from National Environmental Policy Act major federal action requirements and from historic preservation review under 54 U.S.C. 306108.
